Interesting idea! Of course in the long run we hope to wrest control from dictatorial county governments and dictatorial city governments as well, and there's that big ugly overarching entity looming out there, the one that ensures "liberty and justice for all" according to one ditty. But, knocking out the California state government would be a huge step in the right direction, and could get the ball rolling for future actions.
As much as I would love for this to happen, I don't see how it would be possible in terms of the state's relationship to the federal government, specifically state's rights under the 10th amendment. To my mind (and I admittedly haven't put a lot of thought into this), if the state government was nullified, California as a state would cease to exist, so counties and cities wouldn't be protected under the US Constitution (or the CA constitution for that matter). Theoretically, it's a great idea. Practically, it doesn't seem logistically possible. Would love to hear a constitutional scholar's perspective.
Yes, it's a good question. Although, what I'm proposing does not require that the state of California cease to exist - only that it cease to have any real power.
In what sense are they not protected? When some CA sheriffs, at the county level, refused to enforce the Covid orders, there was no state or federal entity that overrode them.
The protection offered by the US Constitution is a legal fiction. Morality provides for the exercise of self-defense, and, indeed, demands it. All people, regardless whether they form a city, a state, a county, or a country, hold the right and responsibility to protect themselves from any and all violations of the Non Aggression Principle. Working together is ideal, but following leadership such as what CA has is foolish.
don't know if you are aware of the NewCaliforniaState.com movement. but, much of what you wrote is spot on, imo. our effort, (which has steadily been building steam for 8 years), will move almost All governance to counties, where it belongs. it will be two states. for multiple reasons. thank you for your post. dave
One point and one question. The People are the protectors of the Constitution. And given that the Constitution was ratified by State conventions wouldn’t one be needed to dissolve the State government?

We know the federal government is not going to do that. Or act in any way to protect us. We need to do that ourselves, from the local level.

Yes, I know a little about that. More power to them!
