I was there more than three decades ago (Crown), but your juxtaposition of stoned airheads and dangerous communists, in a setting of ravishing natural beauty, certainly captures something essential about the place back then. Thanks! Yes - long time ago. I've been back to visit since, and it has changed - not for the better. More buildings, and the little cafes like Sluggos, that once had personality, have been replaced with sterile grab n' go shops.
